On a double projection, the familiar act of writing is rendered obligatory, unfamiliar – even obsessive – while it is coordinated with the movements of the deep sea creatures as a metaphor for the unconscious. The short fragments of found footage of images from the bottom of the sea, and the phrase: And some have the Reputation…, which is the work’s title spoken by the narrator repeatedly – being written by the artists’ hands simultaneously towards both directions, left and right – are employed as allegories of internal situations and existential anxiety. The performative ‘punishment’ that unfolds seems to be dictated from within but is, in fact conditioned by external factors – whether cultural, personal or social.
