Holiday is based on objects from the artist’s childhood memories – dozens of false eyelashes from the 1970s inside plastic boxes in pairs labelled ‘Holiday’ – that are deployed in this work in a different context. As the artists discovers these items anew she realizes they contain ‘a part of what she was to become’ right from the beginning; as if they were ‘magic’ objects and could in a way be aware of these properties. So, in Holiday, one can see a plethora of false eyelashes float in the water while others fall in and sink to the bottom, in the same way that one throws stones or coins in the water to look into the future. Finally, this short ritual is demystified: the eyelashes end up in the siphon.
